The Mech Tech Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU) is a
handgun accessory (not a firearm). It replaces the
slide on your Glock or 1911 frame* thereby converting
your pistol into a powerful yet compact semi-auto
carbine rifle.
The Benefits: Greater range, accuracy, and up to 24%
higher bullet velocity with the very same factory
ammunition you now use in your pistol.
Simple installation requires no gunsmithing or tools!
Your Glock or 1911 style pistol frame slides onto the
Carbine Conversion Unit (CCU). Your existing slide
stop pin holds the two together. The CCU functions as
a straight blowback system and features a 16 1/4 inch
barrel and standard Weaver style sight base. The
assembled carbine uses Glock or 1911 factory magazines
and ammunition making it the most versatile handgun
accessory!
The frame installs and removes easily with the bolt
locked in the open position. For easy installation,
the CCU bolt has a 'hold open' feature. To assemble,
pull bolt handle toward rear notch and push in to hold
open. Install frame . To ready the unit for firing,
simply insert a loaded magazine into the frame and
release the bolt, this will allow the bolt to close
chambering a live round. The carbine fires in
semi-auto mode just as the original pistol.
GLOCK NOTES:
The Glock pistols have three basic frame sizes - 'Full
Size'
'Compact' and 'Sub Compact'. In the 'Full Size' series
are the Models G20 (10mm), G21 (45ACP), G17 (9mm), G22
(40 SW), G31 (357 Sig), G34 (9mm Long Slide) and G35
(40 SW Long Slide). The Mech-Tech CCU's to be released
first are for the Full Size Glock series only. There
is some caliber 'juggling' possible. If you have a G21
(45 ACP) the frame will work with a 10mm CCU if you
use a 10mm Glock magazine. The converse also applies -
a G20 (10mm) frame will work with a 45 ACP CCU if you
use a Glock 45 magazine. The G20 and 21 models are
different in size from all the other 'Full Size'
frames and we refer to these two as the 'fat' frames.
All others in the 'Full Size' series we refer to as
the 'thin' frames. Any of the 'thin' Glock frames will
accept magazines of any of the other 'thin' frame
calibers. Therefore a CCU designed for the Glock
models G17, G22, G31, G34 and G35 will work with any
frame from these models - just use the correct
magazine. The reason for stating the foregoing is to
indicate that a Mech-Tech CCU can be of a different
caliber than the Glock pistol within the respective
Glock series. This is handy for those who own 9mm
Glocks and want a more potent caliber CCU.
1911 NOTES:
The Mech-Tech CCU is a unique product of superior
design, all CNC machined, which adds great additional
versatility to your 1911 style pistol. The CCU
functions in semi-auto mode and shoots the same pistol
ammunition with an increase in muzzle energy up to
40%! Several accessories are available as shown here
and on the 'Home Page' photo. The fixed sight system
(an accessory) is an aperture or 'ghost ring' style
with a post at the front. The sights are adjustable
for windage and elevation. The fixed sight system main
rail has integrated into its design a Weaver style
base running the full length between the rear and
front protective 'ears'. A set of transverse grooves
near the rear and also the front 'ears' allows
mounting standard and long-eye-relief optics. By using
'see-thru' type mounts, both the fixed sights and the
optical sight may be used. Finish on the main housing
is textured powder coating. Absolutely no
modifications to the pistol are required, quick and
easy to reverse.
The CCU may be a different caliber from that of the
pistol with certain limitations. A .45ACP pistol will
function with a 40 S&W or 10mm CCU simply by using the
appropriate magazine. Conversely, non .45 pistols will
work with all CCU calibers - again use the appropriate
magazine.
The 'Basic' unit (see above) is what you purchase. The
customer supplies the pistol. The accessories are
ordered separately.
Certain 1911 style pistols such as the Para
Ordnance line have modified receivers which
leave an opening in the magazine well in an area
critical to proper feeding when these pistols are used
with a CCU. Mech-Tech has designed a clever insert
called a 'Para Block' which solves the problem.
