Six Arrested in Indianapolis Gun Shop

Our story begins on January 18th 2008 at approximately 19:34 with 6 individuals entering the Family Indoor Shooting Range to sell a rifle that the young man stated belonged to his departed father. The couple accepted the assistant managers offer and the transaction was completed. The following day the store manager as well as the stores security manager reviewed the transaction and had the firearm's serial number and description checked by a visiting  Cumberland PD officer. Sure enough the rifle was stolen from a home in Henry County.  The security manager reviewed the DVR video with all employees so they could watch for the person(s) return as well as internal company training.

On Sunday Jan 20th at approximately 15:54 the Sunday assistant manager was offered three rifles to purchase by a two young men, a young lady as well 3 other males in the group. The manager believed he recognized the young man and lady - he contacted the owner in her office who at the time was having a meeting with the companies security director. a Family Indoor Shooting  Range representative contacted 911 to report the possible criminal activity and IMPD's finest quickly responded to the call.

After verifying that the three firearms had also been stolen all 6 individuals were detained and handcuffed. As a side note at least one of the gun sellers had an outstanding felony warrant.

All individuals were transported to Cumberland PD to wait on the Henry county detective to arrive.

The other group of four males who came with the suspects on Friday will be sought for questioning as well. The security department for the Family Indoor Shooting Range  provided copy's of the detailed DVR surveillance videos to the appropriate Local and Federal authorities. It is obvious the suspects are not aware,  the theft from a Federal Licensed Firearms dealer thru robbery , burglary or conversion is a Federal felony.

Score another one for the Good guys.

Hopefully the person in Henry county will be able to reclaim all their stolen firearms. The rifles are all high end bolt action firearms with very high end scopes.

As a side note in the state of Indiana a Firearms dealer does not have a avenue to routinely check the status on a used firearm when they purchase from and individual. Should a firearm purchased by the dealer to later be found stolen the dealer is out the money for the purchase and of course is morally obligated to refund the person you may have later purchased  the weapon from them. Due to a very close relationship to the Law Enforcement community, The Family Indoor Shooting Range are able to check on firearms they may have a concern about. In fact our evening manager who was concerned about the 1st purchase followed company policy an purchased at a ridiculously low price in order to obtain a copy of the sellers ID t go with our DVR video files. The owner and management feel the few hundred dollars they lose each thru this policy is money well spent to get one more low life off the street.
